Clint Johnson has written five Civil War travel tour books and two other books about the war. He has rediscovered many forgotten Civil War sites in the two Carolinas, Virginia and West Virginia. A lifelong Civil War buff, he has been a Civil War reenactor for the past seventeen years. He lives in Winston-Salem, NC.

Day 1

Arrive in Charlotte where you will be met by Clint Johnson; Collect your luggage and board the motor coach; head toward Wilmington. Check into your comfortable accommodation, Courtyard by Marriott. That evening, after dinner, Clint will present his first slide show: "The Carolinas' Civil War Characters".

Day 2

After breakfast, stroll Wilmington's waterfront where Civil War blockade runners docked to learn of the importance of the Port of Wilmington to the Confederacy.

Stop in at the Cape Fear Museum on the way to Fort Fisher State Park for a tour of The Fort. After touring Fort Fisher, cross over the Cape Fear River on the ferry to Southport. Drive North to Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Park. Tour the Fort. Enjoy another Delicious dinner and have a restful evening.

Day 3

After breakfast, you will drive to Morehead City to tour Fort Macon.

After a 1-hour tour, reboard the coach to drive to New Bern. Tour on foot the historic neighborhoods of New Bern to see Civil War era-houses.

Return to Wilmington for your final night and, another delicious dinner at a selected restaurant.

Day 4

After checking out of the Courtyard by Marriott, and having breakfast, you will say good-bye to Wilmington and head toward Bentonville State Battlefield, just north of Newton.

After a tour here, we will drive toward Raleigh to see the North Carolina Museum of History Civil War Exhibit.

You are now heading toward Fredericksburg, Virginia, where You will check into your Hampton Inn for two nights. Enjoy another delicious dinner.

Another slide show will be offered this evening: "In the Footsteps of Robert E. Lee".

Day 5

After breakfast head toward Stratford, Lee's birthplace. Have an excellent tour!!

Return to Fredericksburg National Battlefield and then Chancellorsville Battlefield.

This evening, after dinner, you will enjoy another slide show from Clint: "In the Footsteps of Stonewall Jackson".

Day 6

Check out, have breakfast, and head toward Manassas National Battlefield. Here, you will enjoy your walking tour of First Manassas Battlefield right outside of the Visitor's Center. You will also have a driving tour of Second Manassas with one stop at Unfinished Railroad Cut.

You will drive through Culpeper to see Brandy Station and Cedar Mountain. You will arrive at the Sleep Inn in Staunton, Virginia, for your overnight (Dinner)


Day 7

After check-out and breakfast, you will tour Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery before the 9:00am opening of Lee Chapel (Lee's resting place), and then go over to The VMI Museum.

After the tour here, you will head toward the Charlotte Airport where you will make your connections for home.

Here, you will say good-bye to Clint Johnson.
