Jean Wells Travel Escorts and Assistants

Tim Lawrence - Jean's husband and Travel Team partner - Having a love of history, geography, anthropology, and the earth sciences, my travel lust was developed during my college years. After several "dream excursions" throughout the world, I can say sincerely that travel is the most fulfilling activity that an individual can undertake. Jean and I have seen the "Big Five" game animals in South Africa as well as visited the ancient treasures of Egypt, plus so many other memorable areas. Other favorite countries include Italy as well as the British Isles.

Jean Wells - Pres. and Owner - Travel has always been such a passion of mine; having traveled to 48 countries during the past 27 years (and some of them I have traveled to several times), I can honestly say that all countries offer an overwhelming abundance of spectacular scenery, wonderful and interesting people, great food, new cultures, and fun things to do every moment of every day.
Within JWT we make every effort to give each of our clients the personal attention to ensure the he/she has the experiences that make each and every tour unique, fun, and memorable.

Clint Johnson - Tour Escort- Clint Johnson has written five Civil War travel tour books and two other books about the war (Touring The Carolinas' Civil War Sites, Touring Virginia's and West Virginia's Civil War Sites, In The Footsteps of Robert E. Lee, In The Footsteps of Stonewall Jackson, and In The Footsteps of J.E.B. Stuart, Civil War Blunders and Bulls'Eyes and Misfires: 50 People Whose Obscure Efforts Shaped The American Civil War). He has rediscovered many forgotten Civil War sites in the two Carolinas, Virginia and West Virginia. His travel goals are to combine the experience of visiting Civil War sites with telling the stories of the fascinating historical characters who once were at those sites during the most tumultuous time in our nation's history. You can join him on a motor coach tour of sometimes little visited sites in North and South Carolina, as well as Virginia and hear stories along the way of how these men and women of the 19th Century lived, fought and sometimes died.

Jim Rouse - Tour Escort - A true wanderlust, I don't like to stay in one place very long. As a result, I have visited more than 50 countries and have been on more than 30 cruises. I have also toured most of the 50 States. Being a history buff, I particularly enjoy researching the area I will be visiting, but people are the main motivation for travel. Meeting new friends and sharing the experience with travel mates makes any journey a joy.

Sharon Dunnagan - Tour Escort - I have been a Social Studies teacher at a local high school for 20 years and a media coordinator for almost eight. I developed a love of traveling and history/other cultures from my parents. In 1989, I traveled to the USSR with Jean. What a first trip outside the US! I have also been to Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, England, Germany, Mexico, Canada, and the Bahamas. I feel there is no better way to develop as a lifelong learner than to see and experience what you read in a book or on watch on TV. You bond with other people who share your fascination and desire to live life to the fullest.

John Giles - Tour Escort - I have been an active traveler since 1981 when I became an ambassador for Winston-Salem and attended our first Friendship Force exchange to Hanover, Germany. Travel entered my blood then and I have traveled to Europe eleven times since. Most of my trips have been chaperoning students interested in travel. Teaching history at Mount Tabor for 19 years has given me an opportunity to visit many countries including:England, Wales, Scotland, Belgium, Luxumbourg, The Netherlands, Italy, Greece, Spain France, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark and Sweden. One of my most memorable trips was to Russia in 1989, one year before the fall of Communism. We indeed were pioneers for our time then. My favorite countries continue to be Italy and France. Capri is simply fascinating and the Riviera in France ranks a close second, especially the area around Nice and Monaco. I hope to continue my travels this spring with a cruise from Tampa to Cozumel. It is definitely my favorite pastime.

Ann Reid - Tour Escort - I am a Marketing Education teacher who thrives. Although I have visited and enjoyed such foreign lands as France, England, Switzerland, Spain and Canada, my first love has always been this land...the USA!

Being a history buff and having traveled to 44 of the 50 states, I am enthralled with the idea of having each state's contributions in the making of our history. And our wonderful state of North Carolina is no exception. Therefore when Jean invited me to join her company as a tour escort I was thrilled and look forward to meeting new folks from all over to share the history of our "Tarheel State"...North Carolina.

Comments From Adventurous JWT Travelers

Jean,
We had a great time at Disney World, and Universal and even Sea World. We walked our legs off but enjoyed every minute. While TJ Floyd (aged 15 months) and Bowie McCaffrey (aged 8 months) were just interested in the lights, sounds and people, Skylar Floyd (5) and Ingrid McCaffrey (4) loved it. Also, Kris Floyd (15) had fun on the big rides with his parents Thomas and Jaime Floyd, and Greg and Keri McCaffrey, as well as Grammie Kay McCaffrey!!! Had a blast!
Thanks,
Kay McCaffrey

Jean,
Michael and I left London and traveled to Florence, Italy.  We visited four museums, toured the city, and went to several art galleries.  From here we took the bullet train to Rome and saw the Parthenon, Coliseum, Paletine, Forum, as well as the Vatican.  My son and I had a fantastic time and will not soon forget celebrating his college graduation by taking this overseas trip.

Hi, Jean! It already seems like months since we returned from our trip to the UK!!! What a fabulous time we had. Everything was perfectly organized, the food was wonderful, the tour guides were delightful and very knowledgeable. We not only enjoyed seeing all the gorgeous sites, but learning the history of them as well. Thank you for all your help in making this a wonderful experience and glorious memory for us! Gail and Lester

Kathy, Libba and Sunny Cooper with Today Show's Al Roker

Hi Jean, NY was lots of fun. We loved our hotel on Times Square and I am really glad you selected that one. It made going to the shows very easy and just a short walk. Everything was easy to navigate. The double decker buses are a great way to ride around the city and see the sights. We hopped off and shopped in Chinatown, SoHo, the Garmet District and Madison Ave.

Little Mermaid is fabulous. The costumes and set are amazing. Mary Poppins is lots of fun too with the singing, dancing and wires! A bonus was seeing the Amsterdam THeatre. Rent was fun too and it ends in Sept.

Thanks again for your help! Kathy

Kay McCaffrey, Jaime Floyd, Thomas Floyd, Greg McCaffrey and guides on a Canopy Tour

Hi Jean, the trip was great! We had a fun week at the Paradisus Playa Conchal Resort. Even the little ones had a good time! I've attached a couple of pictures that we took. We did do the Canopy tour, an ATV tour, and an inland boat tour. All were great. Everyone said that this resort was the best and Swiss Travel was the best on to book excersions from.

Our trip to Costa Rica to stay at the Paradisus Playa Conchal Resort was wonderful. It was a family trip that included kids-aged 2-13, but all had something to do and the kids club was great as well as the babysitting services for early morning departures on excursions. We played in the beautiful pools, swam in the ocean, shopped, and saw parts of Costa Rica on side tours. The restaurants were really excellent, we ate at a different restaurant at the resort every day we were there and liked them all. All the staff was always ready to help and were very friendly even though we didn't know Spanish, which was not a problem. Everyone thought the week we sprent there just flew by. Would recommend to anyone!

Thanks for recommending this resort!

After flying to Fort Myers, Florida, my sister Jane, my brother Wake and me (Kathy) embarked on a sibling trip! Jean had arranged for us to rent an SUV (a Honda Pilot) and we drove to Marco Island, Florida on the west coast. We spent three nights at the Marco Island Marriot. Great beach with nice shells, great pools, lots of relaxation and a beautiful hotel. We found some really nice restaurants but our favorite was a short trip to the fishing village of Goodland to the "Little Bar at Goodland". Very deceiving from the outside, but interesting on the inside (bar from and old bar in Chicago, stain glass from a Bordello in Chicago, and a wall built from wooden organ pipes from Georgia). Best of all was the food - last day of stone crab season - so we had to have stone crab legs in addition to conch chowder and sea scallops - wonderful!

On Wednesday we drove through the Everglades and down the Keys to Key West - we enjoyed every minute of it! Three nights in Key West at the Westin that Jean booked us. I love Westin - great beds. A perfect Key West location - on the dock where the cruise boats come in and the artists come to sell their wares at night. Key West was not as relaxing - more to do and see on Duval Street! Radical Jane got at tatoo - well just a henna tatoo! The restaurant we liked best - Half Shell Raw Bar for the Beer Steamed Shrimp! We had happy hour at Conch Republic on the Gulf side, went to the northernmost point to have our picture made (must do) and loved the 6 and 7 toed cats at the Hemingway house.

What a memorable trip with my dearest friends - my sister and brother...and a good time was had by all!

Thanks for making the trip so seamless Jean!

Australia/New Zealand for the new year!!

Cairns, Sydney, Melbourne--Australia Auckland, Christchurch, Queenstown---New Zealand

What a wonderful way to spend January 2007 in the Land Down Under. In Cairns the Great Barrier Reef was absolutely breathtaking. Sydney- a city of 5 million people- has a neverending vibe: the beaches, the harbour, the diversity of people, the Sydney Opera House. I climbed to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge!!

Melbourne was special for me because I was there to go to the Australian Open in Rod Laver Arena to see the men's semifinal-Tommy Haas vs. Fernando Gonzalez. I also got to see Rod Laver in person!!! He was there signing autographs. The Yarra River that runs through Melbourne is very much a lifeline of the city.

On to New Zealand for a visit to Auckland. The city built on volcanoes has steep streets all around. The harbour bustles with everybody. Not far from the city there are beaches, national parks and rainforests. In Christchurch (a town similar in size to Winston-Salem), the Avon River curves through the city. You can see the botanical gardens, the museums, and the ducks as you meander along.

Queenstown has Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables (mountains) to give claim to fame. The city is built so almost every resident and visitor has
a view of the lake from any part of town. A beautiful city on the water it was a perfect place to end my trip.

We had a wonderful time at the Carefree Resort near Phoenix--it was by far our favorite spot. It was much more than we expected and even though it was very hot, we loved all of the unexpected services. We enjoyed Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon as well--the view of the Canyon can't be described in words!! Thanks for helping us plan an enjoyable and unforgettable adventure for our family. While we were there, we also enjoyed Sedona, Slide Rock Park and the Verde Canyon Railroad, which were all memorable --the Red Rocks of Sedona and Slide Rock were absolutely beautiful!! Thanks so much for helping us plan this 11 day trip together. We'll definitely contact you again for any future trips our family takes.

The Berry Family at the Riu Cancun

We have just returned from a FABULOUS family vacation to Cancun! We stayed at the Riu Cancun, a large all-inclusive beachfront resort, and our stay could not have been more perfect. The staff was friendly and helpful, the rooms were spacious and clean, the facilities were beautiful and well-maintained, and the food was great...what else can we say? The only thing that would have make the trip better is an extra week! There were lots of activities available for all ages, as well as lots of opportunities to relax and enjoy the beautiful beach. We would definitely return and would recommend this resort whether it's for a family vacation with kids or a romantic getaway.

We just returned from our trip to Italy and I wanted to let you know how wonderful the trip was.  Everything was perfect.  We saw the most amazing things and had a fabulous tour director, driver and local guides.  The tour was operated by Globus and I think were the only Brendan participants.  Everything was so smooth.  You had requested king/queen accommodations and we were pleasantly surprised to have a king room in every hotel except the last night in Rome (2 doubles.)  We even ended up with a couple of suites/corner rooms that were extra nice!!  At dinner the first night, we received flowers, spumante, and cake in honor of our anniversary.  They thought we were honeymooners.  Can you imagine that??

All that being said, thanks again for your help in setting everything up.  I can wholeheartedly recommend this tour and we'll never forget the wonderful experience we had!!

Our trip with the Rocky Mountaineers was fabulous!! We have never been so pampered in our lives. They certainly run a first class act with no surprises at all. Everything was as stated and there were no glitches whatsoever. We would highly recommend it to everybody. Thanks for all of your help!

Sue and Stanley Morgan

Hi Jean,

Our trip was wonderful. The weather was rainy, cold and overcast the entire time, but it didn't spoil one thing! We just had a fabulous time. The only bad part was coming home exactly as you said. The two weeks just flew by and seemed to go even faster the closer we got to the end. The Viking folks were great during our trip and you were so helpful throughout the entire process. Let me know if you ever need anyone for "show and tell" at your presentation. Also, if you ever have another client interested in a Viking river cruise, I'll be glad to tell someone about our experience.

Thanks again for everything. I'll be sure to talk to you before we plan our next trip. I'm ready to go right now!
